THERE is a first for Manea Gala this year with the selection of a Gala Prince for the first time in the event’s 56-year history.

For many years there has been gala princesses with all Year 6 girls from the village school able to ride on a float during the parade.

This year organisers have not only re-instated the tradition of a Gala Queen chosen from the Year 6 girls by means of a lucky draw, but have also decided to allow the boys to play a part too.

Like the gala princesses all Year 6 boys were invited to be princes for the day on July 9, with a Head Prince also being chosen by a draw.

The lucky draw winners were Brandon Rimmer and Olivia Thomas - pictured left.

The Head Prince and Queen will join the parade in a classic vehicle and the six princesses together with the other princes will travel on a separate float for the procession which starts from Station Road at noon.
