FIRE crews are currently at the scene of a gas and water leak in Wisbech which has forced the evacuation of nearby properties and the closure of busy Weaseham Lane.
The incident happened just after 2.15pm today when both a gas and water main ruptured on Weasenham Lane at its junction with Algores Way.
Two Wisbech fire crews, who were already in attendance at a road accident in nearby Regal Road, immediately put in place a 15 metre cordon and evacuated adjacent homes.
They are also diverting water away from properties and are monitoring the gas leak.
Gas and water representatives are also on site and are currently awaiting the arrival of specialist teams to repair the two damaged mains.
A fire spokesman said Weasenham Lane is closed at both ends and is likely to remain so for several hours.
Drivers are being urged to stay away from the area and to find alternative routes.
