The annual Long Sutton Horse and Pony Show – due to take place tomorrow (Sunday) – has been called off because of “adverse weather conditions”.
The show may be re-arranged later this summer – and an alternative show has been hastily arranged in West Pinchbeck tomorrow.
The ground is so soft that all of the horse boxes would have created so much damage it would ruin the park for the local community
Long Sutton show organisers posted the following statement on their website late yesterday.
“Due to adverse weather conditions, we have had to make the utterly heartbreaking decision to not go ahead with this Sunday’s show. We are looking at other dates, and may be able to reschedule it for another day this summer.
“We are SO sorry to all competitors, sponsors and trade stands, and we promise it’s not a decision we have taken lightly, but this morning a lorry went to drop things off onto the show ground and ended up stuck, up to its axle; and the council (who own the public park) have asked us to postpone because of this.
“The committee have worked very hard over the last year to make this show happen and we promise we’ll do everything we can to try and make it up to you all.
Please share this post. And accept our apologies. The Committee xxx
“PS All online entry money and pre entry money will be refunded.”
They added: “The ground is so soft that all of the horse boxes would have created so much damage it would ruin the park for the local community. We have had to consider every aspect of the safety and enjoyment of the park for all. Such a shame.”
All online entries will be refunded in full and the committee is meeting this weekend to discuss how to proceed. All trade stands have also been contacted and all sponsors and pre-entries will be contacted over the weekend.
• Four Winds Equestrian Centre will be holding a show at its site in Leaveslake Drove, West Pincheck, from 10am tomorrow. Showing classes (in hand and ridden) along with show jumping will be held. See the Facebook page for full details.
