WISBECH Market Place is to become a multi-storey car park - that is the news announced at a special press conference this morning (April 1).
It is anticipated the new three-level car park will solve the issue of what to do with the Market Place once and for all.
The idea will be to allow town centre workers free use of the car park with the project being funded by charges introduced at other car parks in the town.
Speaking after the announcement Town Council Leader David Oliver said: “There have been demands for car parking on the Market Place - we hope this will satisfy people. Unfortunately the cost of the project means charges will be necessary elsewhere in the town.
“But we aim to open the car park up once a year for all drivers to use. We haven’t yet decided which day that may be, but we are looking at April 1 as an appropriate date for that to happen.”
