THE official opening of Phase III of a business park is a true Fenland success story.
Fenland Council leader Alan Melton could barely conceal his delight at the opening ceremony at the South Fens Enterprise Park in Chatteris on Friday.
He said the £680,000 extension to the park, which is the third in what is hoped will be a five phase development, was a ‘real success story’ and a great asset to Chatteris.
He said the third phase, which comprises four units, proves the current down turn in business can be overcome with a bit of investment and determination.
Two of the units are already filled and tenants are being sought for the remaining two.
Mr Melton aims to have at least phase four completed before his term of office ends and is hoping that phase five will be under-way.
He said as soon as the current development is 80 per cent full he will call for a business plan so work can begin on the next phase.
Mr Melton said the Enterprise Park was a great example of how the public sector can provide and enable the private sector to start up and grow businesses.
The latest phase has seen funding totalling £680,000 from Fenland District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridgeshire Horizons.
