There are already twenty seven estate agents and housing associations in March but a retired fancy dress shop could make way for a twenty eight.
Fenland District Council will consider a planning application to turn former fancy dress, party and dance shop Abracadabra, 72 High Street, into Connells group estate agents.
Despite the high number of estate agents already competing in the town, yet another housing business will bring “vitality and viability” to the high street, according to the applicant.
It says: “The proposal will not have a detrimental effect on the surrounding environment, or the occupants of neighbouring units.
“The proposed change will not undermine the vitality and viability of the commercial retail area” and “is therefore not considered to harm the functioning of the town centre, but would, quite the opposite, be complimentary to it.”
Connells has over 150 branches across the country. Currently the nearest in Cambridge, Peterborough and St Neots. This will be the first time they open their doors to Fenland residents.
The old fancy dress shop is part of a three storey building which sits within the March conservation area.
Referring to how busy the town centre is and its appearance in attracting new visitors and businesses the application said the new business will not lead to the town being too busy and will promote economic growth.
No internal or external changes will be made to the property and it will operate under normal day time hours, not causing noise pollution.
