Chatteris fish and chip business Petrou Brothers has been short listed as a finalist in the Staff Training and Development Award category of The National Fish & Chip Awards 2014, organised by Seafish.
Sponsored by James T Blakeman and Son, the Staff Training and Development Award is a celebration of educational excellence in the industry and rewards businesses that are committed to developing their staff to the highest level. Those making the shortlist are judged on a wide range of criteria including staff interview processes, business training policy and staff appraisal procedures.
Petrou Brothers will now fry off against: Harbourside Fish & Chips in Plymouth, Devon and Mr C’s in Selby, North Yorkshire in one final round of judging before the winner is revealed at the prestigious awards ceremony, hosted by Michelin starred television chef Jean Christophe Novelli, held in London on 22 January 2014, where the overall winner will be crowned.
Mark Petrou, owner of Petrou Brothers commented: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for this category as we know how important staff training is in the business. We’re been in the final before so we’re hoping to go all the way this time and take the prize home with us.
“We’ve been involved with the awards for a long time now, winning the flagship category in 2006, but Staff Training and Development is one that’s close to our hearts. I believe we’ve got the most comprehensive training manual of any fish and chip shop in the world, we’ve got everything covered from turning the key in the morning to locking up at night and that stands us in good stead for the final.”
