Members of staff from the new Tesco Extra store in Wisbech teamed up with Street Pride volunteers, to clear an overgrown piece of National Trust land at the entrance to Chapel Road Car Park in Wisbech.

Rebecca Robinett, Street Pride coordinator, said: “I would like to thank Kevin and his team for all their help in clearing the land, which will be turned into a community garden with the support of the Fenland District Council, resident volunteers and the National Trust.”

Councillor Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder for Environment and Growth, said: “This is a great example of how organisations and volunteers taking part in the Council’s Street Pride initiative can work together to improve and take pride in Fenland.”

Store manager Kevin Chestnutt said: “We are keen to become involved in the Wisbech community and support local organisations, and our team volunteering for the day is just one of the ways we can achieve this. We also offer a community room in store which can be used free of charge by any local groups or classes in need of space.”

For more information or details on booking the community room, please contact Tesco Community Champion Heidi Mote on 07516 050 343 or by email at wisbech@communityattesco.co.uk
