Last year was an eventful year at the Horsefair shopping centre in Wisbech with a string of successful events and another national award under its belt.
The Horsefair’s award winning Halloween Trick or Treat event attracted even more visitors with more than 550 youngsters taking part and its annual Easter and Summer Fun Day’s also enticed a generous crowd to the centre.
In November, the region’s first digital bus timetable was installed at the centre giving shoppers the most up to date departure information and in the same month, the centre was handed a Silver Award by the Green Association for its work in reducing the centre’s electric consumption by nearly 20%, this was achieved by working alongside Wisbech based company, Advanced Electrical Ltd.
The centre’s charity car boot sale helped to raise more than £400 for the charity that helps injured soldiers, Help for Heroes, just by selling pitches for the day, it also ran a similar event raising cash for the Wisbech & District Lions Club to support their work within the local community.
The Wisbech Christmas Market was a huge success and the Horsefair sponsored its reindeer which were a big hit with shoppers.
“2012 has been a busy year at the Horsefair, gaining national recognition for our energy reduction has been a brilliant boost and we plan to carry on lowering the centre’s carbon footprint even further in the future,” said Horsefair manager, Kevin Smith.
“Our shoppers have been paramount in making the centre’s events a success and with their on-going support we can carry on offering free events and initiatives for their families to enjoy.”
Before the end of 2013 the centre will be introducing free WiFi for its shoppers, the centre’s sponsorship of Wisbech Town Acorns’ under 18’s Football Club will continue throughout the year and the Horsefair has confirmed that its Annual Easter Fun Day will take place on Wednesday, 3rd April which is during the half term school holiday.
