An Outwell family business has expanded to new premises in the village.
Crown Service Station was formerly based behind the Crown Lodge Hotel and has now moved to a more prominent position on the other side of the river, in larger premises.
The Service Station has been part of the family business for almost 40 years but even in recent years, there were still people in the village who did not know about it.
So when the opportunity came to take over the former John Watts site on Isle Road, it was snapped up and the Service Station relocated in January.
Director Tim Gibb said: “This is a chance for the Service Station to grow larger and we can push it to be a business by itself, with its own identity, rather than an extension of the hotel.”
The move has allowed the business to employ two new staff members and they are planning to take on an apprentice as well, bringing the total staff total to six.
Head mechanic Stuart Smith has been with the Service Station for the whole time it has been in operation, starting as an apprentice at the age of 16.
“Stuart is well known for his solid reliable work,” Tim said. “We are a trustworthy local garage and we want people to realise what we can offer.”
The Crown Service Station can carry out all servicing and MOT work on Class 4 vehicles (cars). And now it can also offer its services to Class 7 vehicles, up to three-and-a-half tonnes.
They took advantage of the move and the fresh start to invest in new ramps and lifts for the workshop that can cater for the larger vehicles.
