Successful sale

RICHARD Barnwell of Clifford Cross Auctions Ltd conducted an Antiques and Collectors Sale at The Wisbech Auction Halls, over two days July 21 and 22 which drew buyers from all over the country.

A total of over 900 lots were offered for sale and Mr Barnwell, the auctioneer, reported that at the sale there was competitive bidding and the result far exceeded expectations.

Some of the chief prices realised were as follows:A late 18th century 8-day striking longcase clock by Joseph Herring of London £1,600; An extremely fine quality oak dining room suite comprising sideboard, serving table and extending dining table having carved vine decoration £880; An important late Victorian mercury barometer with heavily carved case by Dolland of London £560; An early 20th century anodised copper hanging hall lamp with opaque glass shade £480; A late 18th century/early 19th century banjo barometer in walnut case marked P.
