MORE used to watching the skies, former RAF pilot, Met Office meteorologist and BBC weather presenter Sally Cummings is turning her attention to hair after taking over a long-standing Upwell hairdressers.

‘Toni and Irene’s’ has now become ‘Characteristics’ after 32 years of cutting families’ hair in the village.

Dynamic duo Toni and Irene Turco will be reducing their hours before going into semi-retirement.

Maintaining the tradition of running the hairdressers as a family business, Sally has taken on the business with her nephew, building consultant Paul Anderson.

Paul’s daughter Danielle Saunders has become the new junior hair stylist under the tutelage of Irene and Kayleigh Gaunt has been welcomed as a full-time senior hair stylist. Senior stylist Lyn Styles will remain at the salon.

The business was officially reopened last Monday by David Pope, the borough councillor for Upwell with Delph.

Sally’s daughters Jemima (16) and Poppy (5), along with son Michael and great-nephew Tom, added to the ambience at the opening by playing cello, ukelele, guitar and drums.

The children are getting used to country life after living in London but are enjoying the change of pace. Poppy is settling in at Beaupre Primary School in nearby Outwell.
