Residents are calling for action on a Walsoken road that is plagued by speeding drivers.
The last straw came last week when a small dog was clipped by a car and dragged down the road in front of its horrified family.
Little Westie Franek was dragged for around four metres by the vehicle and died shortly afterwards. The driver did not even stop.
Owner Magda Wisniewska was in tears as she described how the car caught the dog as they stood outside their house saying goodbye to friends. She believes the driver was doing well in excess of the 50 miles per hour limit.
“Cars are using the road like Silverstone,” she said. “Something needs to be done.”
Magda and her three children, aged 9, 10 and 12, had Franek for four years before he was killed on Thursday and she said they are all devastated.
“I’m a single mum and Franek was everything to the children. They are really upset.”
Magda said other residents in the road are also sick of the speeding and they are going to be grouping together to get a petition started.
She wants to see the speed limit dropped and would also like to know if it would be possible to get traffic calming down the road, such as speed bumps.
“This problem has to be stopped as soon as possible,” Magda said. “There are other children, other animals in the neighbourhood. It’s not safe for any of us.”
