Care homes across Fenland opened their doors on Friday for National Care Homes Open Day.

Askham House, in Doddington, was just one of several in the area to run special events throughout the day, including free cream teas.

Entertainment came from Richard Silvester, who playing the violin for residents and guests. It was also a chance for two students to promote a salon they are opening at Askham. Charlotte Kerr and Grace Fitzjohn did work experience there when they were at Peterborough Regional College and have decided to start a business.

Other homes that took part included Heron House in March, Lyncroft Care Home in Wisbech, Rose Lodge in Wisbech, The Gables in Chatteris, Hickathrift House in Marshland St James and Delph House in Welney.

The day was organised with the intention of challenging negative perceptions about care homes and showing what goes on behind the scenes on a daily basis.
