WOULD your community group like to be involved in this year’s Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age which takes place during the month of October each year?
For the last few years, a core group of community-focused organisations have worked together to adapt their regular events held during October to reflect the theme set each year, or set up a special event/activity either on their own or in partnership with others.
These have included film shows in rural villages, quizzes, music events, fashion shows and healthy eating cookery demonstrations.
This year’s theme is ‘Active Ageing’ and participating organisations may be able to access free help through My Time Active or the local British Heart Foundation Coach for Fenland to introduce taster sessions of activities into their regular meetings during October.
Existing groups already providing activities such as dancing, bowls, bingo etc may wish to use October as an opportunity to celebrate what they are already doing to encourage older people to stay active.
Those planning to launch new groups to include older people or existing groups aiming to recruit more older people may wish to use October as a time to promote these through Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age.
A programme of special October events and a second programme to promote year round groups will be produced (both are free).
Entries into the October programme must be received by June 7.
