A CHARITY race night has raised more than £5,000 for Peckover School, in Wisbech, in memory of a teacher.

Penny Slater was just 30 when she lost her battle with breast cancer last June.

Her family decided to hold the fundraiser at Leverington Sports and Social Club in celebration of her life.

They were very pleased with the number of people who turned out on Friday night to help them celebrate Penny and raise money for the Wisbech school.

They said: “We want to thank the small army of volunteers who helped to make this event happen and the wonderful generosity of family and friends who attended. There was a heart-warming response from local firms who donated funds, resources and raffle prizes.

“The love and memories shared will be something Penny’s family can hold onto and carry with them to share with her beautiful son, Maxwell.”

The race night also included a balloon release in Penny’s memory, a cake sale, prize draw and raffle.

Memories of Penny were shared in a special video presentation.
