It was party time in Chatteris on Thursday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Kitty Andrews.
The centenarian enjoyed a proper celebration with family and other residents of Swan House, where she has lived for the past four years, thanks to a generous £100 donation by the local branch of estate agents Harrison Murray.
Kitty, who has been a widow since 2008 when her husband of 72 years Douglas died. The couple were childhood sweethearts having met at school when they were 10, they were married in 1936 and had two children Nora Walker, of Chatteris and Maurice of St Albans.
Kitty, who worked in domestic service for many years, has five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and 10 great great grandhcildren.
Her hobbies included knitting and gardening, with both her and Douglas keen allotment keepers for all their married life. She is still a regular member of Chatteris St Emmanuel Church. Kitty enjoys letter writing and keeps in touch with her extended family by post.
