Golfers netted £2,200 for Papworth Hospital on Friday in an annual fundraising tournament organised by March man Les Bridgeford.
Mr Bridgeford (88) held the open seniors tournament at March Golf Club along with a raffle and a previous collection at the town’s Tesco which raised £333.88 and was organised by Charlie Dickson.
This is the 14th year of the event, which Mr Bridgeford started with his wife Lucy after undergoing an emergency quadruple heart bypass at Papworth in 1997.
During that time, the former Seniors Captain has raised around £12,000. Les thanked the club for allowing the event to be held free and thanked Fred Gordon and Peter Flint, who have organised the day with the help of friends for the last six years and are now standing down.
He also thanked those taking part in the rain and the sponsors.
Winners on the day were: Albert Garner 35 stableford points. Nearest the pin: Ernie Cave (2nd hole), Tony Smith with a hole-in-one (6th). Best over six short holes: Albert Garner 15 pts. Straightest drive on the 8th: John Farnsworth.
