Chatteris mayor James Carney will be having a hair-raising experience after volunteering to have his legs waxed to raise money for charity.

Spectators will be able to watch as staff from Tranquility Beauty Salon wax Cllr Carney in the Council Chamber, in Church Lane, today (Thursday, October 29) from 7pm.

Cllr Carney has previously undertaken a similar fundraiser and is hoping people will support him with fundraising.

He said: “I did this a number of years ago with the Spalding Young Farmers’ Club as a charity event so now I thought I’d go through it all again during my second year in office.

“I’m fairly sure that not many, if any, other mayors have done this as part of their fundraising efforts.”

All money raised at the event will go into the Mayor’s Charity Fund which will be distributed in May next year at the end of his term of office.

If you would like to sponsor Cllr Carney contact the town council office on 01354 695166.
