A Chatteris father-of-two has been named as the Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year at the prestigious National BTEC Awards.

Cambridge Regional College’s Leigh Sessions, 31, who was described as a “truly outstanding student” at the awards ceremony last week, was picked from hundreds of nominees across the country to win the award.

Leigh joined the college to study engineering after being made redundant from the Army, where he served for 12 years including in Iraq and Afghanistan. A “role model for fellow students”, Leigh also drove a lorry at night during his two years at college to support his wife Gemma and two young daughters.
