A teenager from Chatteris will be fulfilling his dream of travelling the world after joining the Royal Navy.
Trainee chef Stanley Leach, 16, arrived at HMS Raleigh, the Royal Navy’s training base in Cornwall in October.
The former pupil of St Ivo School said: “I joined the Royal Navy to travel the world whilst plying my trade and for a good pension. Training is extremely difficult, but the feeling after completing a task makes you feel 100% better.”
With the first phase of his training complete Stanley will remain at HMS Raleigh for his professional training at the Defence Maritime Logistics School.
During a 26-week course he will learn how to cook for hundreds of people, fine dining along with food hygiene and catering accountancy.
The initial training course is underpinned by nine core maritime skills which include discipline, customs, navigation, fitness and the chance to take the helm of an inflatable boat during a water orienteering exercise.
