Members of the Chatteris branch of the Royal British Legion were treated to a night of military memorabilia at their meeting, courtesy of Malcolm Punter.

Malcolm, a former fireman and Army Junior Leader, has been collecting military items for the last 40 years – with a selection that ranges from a 300-year-old Lothian Volunteers’ helmet up to present day Iraq and Afghanistan medals.
He has a varied selection from clothing to medals, unit badges, prints and photographs, with a strong focus on local military units.
A significant element of his collection is from World War One, pertinent with this being the centenary year since the war began.
Malcolm recently donated a full-sized Victoria Cross replica medal to the George Clare surgery – named after the former Chatteris resident who was awarded the highest gallantry medal during the Great War – after seeing George’s photo and a miniature medal on display in their waiting room and thinking that the local hero warranted the more eye-catching full-size piece.
The branch’s next evening will be a quiz night at Chatteris Working Men’s Club on September 8, at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
