Steve Barclay MP has congratulated the Chatteris Christmas Lights Committee on topping this year’s list of local community projects bidding for money from the Lloyds Community Fund.

The Christmas lights committee’s bid for further funds to enhance the town’s sparkling annual display came out top of the Fenland good causes with 32% of the votes cast.

Steve Barclay MP said: “A big well done is due to the Chatteris Christmas Lights committee on obtaining this well deserved funding from the Lloyds community Fund. The community did a great job in pulling together to vote for the Lights Committee. The team never fail to put on a brilliant display and fill the town with Christmas Cheer.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing their creative displays this year and would encourage everyone to head down to Market hill this weekend for the official opening and brilliant festive atmosphere.”

The Chatteris Christmas Lights committee is run by a dedicated group of volunteers led by Chris Savill and has been arranging festive lights displays in the town since 1985.

The official switch on event will take place in Market Hill Chatteris at from 3pm on Saturday (November 30). There will be festive fare provided by stalls run by local businesses, seasonal music and a Santa’s Grotto.
