Sacked Wisbech Council clerk Erbie Murat is standing as an independent candidate in the Fenland District Council by-election for Roman Bank ward.

Mr Murat, who is “flying bottle green and silver colours”, believes his three decades of experience in local government mean he can make a difference in the Fens. He was a city councillor in Peterborough for 12 years.

His nomination was seconded by former councillor and mayor Patrick O’Dell, who is pictured with Mr Murat canvessing the support of Wendy Bunting in Gorefield.

The nominations closed yesterday (Tuesday) and the vote will take place on May 8.

Mr Murat was sacked from Wisbech Town Council in November after being suspended in January 2013 but is taking the council to an employment tribunal, citing unfair dismissal and race discrimination.
