Dann’s clock has returned to Wisbech ready to be repaired and put back in its rightful place in Bridge Street. Former Wisbech Mayor Richard Barnwell and Rotarian John Martin travelled to Sussex to collect the piece from clockmaker William Bruce (all pictured), who bought it at auction at Bonham’s.
Mr Bruce looked into the clock’s history and discovered the controversy sparked after it was removed and sold. He contacted Mr Barnwell who made sure the clock came back to Wisbech.
The town’s Rotary and Wisbech Society are uniting to pay for the clock and repairs and the hope is it will then be adopted as a town asset. Mr Barnwell, a member of both Rotary and Wisbech Society, said: “I suspect it is going to be quite expensive to repair.”
