County call for Wisbech Grammar pupils

Talented competitors from Wisbech Grammar School have scored a string of runaway successes in the Isle Athletics Championships at King’s Lynn.

Competing against six other schools at Lynnsport in the district championships, the Wisbech Grammar School team was placed second overall and 14 pupils were picked to contest the County Athletics Championships in Cambridge on Saturday, June 6.

The first, second and fourth form girls took the year group titles and the third form girls were placed second on Tuesday last week.

There was a first place for the boys’ third form team, and the second and fourth form boys’ teams came in third.

Head of athletics Mrs Sally Webb said: “The pupils have worked hard in training.

“We are extremely proud of their efforts and achievements.”

County championships selections: U20 James Greenhalgh; U17 Jake Slender, Oliver Mann, Harry Beresford-Peirse, Hetty Beckett, Emma Ran Tai, Eden Cooper; U15 George Lemon, Jack Trundley, Samuel Birch, Ophelia Griffiths, Lucy Lim, Isabella Oldershaw-Ellis; U13 Isabella Pope.

Event winners: fourth form – girls, hurdles Melissa Clench, triple jump Eden Cooper; boys, 200 metres Jake Slender, 400 metres and triple jump Oliver Mann; third form – boys, 400 metres and 800 metres Jack Trundley, high jump Samuel Birch; second form – girls, 200 metres and hurdles Lucy Lim, 1500 metres Ophelia Griffiths, discus Isabella Oldershaw-Ellis; first form – girls, 100 metres and long jump Isabella Pope, 800 metres Rosie Muspratt, hurdles Charlotte Mair, shot put Aimee Newman; boys, javelin Thomas Dhillon.
