Drinkers await deportation

Two men were arrested for street drinking in Wisbech yesterday (Thursday) following a joint operation between police and the UK Border Agency.

Street drinking is one of the big issues for Wisbech particularly with offenders drinking and urinating in public areas such as parks.

Both agencies carried out patrols around the town centre and as a result two of the area’s repeat offenders were arrested and are now in custody awaiting deportation.

A police spokesman said: “Both ourselves and UKBA will continue with this work over the coming months. Our clear message to street drinking offenders is “zero tolerance”. Their behaviour when drunk is unacceptable and we will intervene and take firm and positive action where necessary.”
