Burglars target child’s piggy bank

Burglars stole cash from a child’s piggy bank and took money from birthday cards during a break-in at a Chatteris home.

Offenders took the money along with a selection of army medals, including one from World War Two, and a range of electrical equipment including a Samsung computer, iPod, iPad, a Nintendo DS, DVD player, digital camera and mobile phones, from the home in New Road overnight between March 30 and 31.

PC Phil Richardson, investigating, said: “The fact the offenders took money from a child’s piggy bank and also opened several birthday cards in order to steal money inside, is reprehensible.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about who is responsible or who has been offered any of the items for sale to call police.

“The house is located near a busy road and I would also appeal to any motorist who saw anything suspicious to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information should call PC Richardson on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555111.
