TWO men have been jailed today (Tuesday) for their part in an armed robbery in Chatteris last year.
Daniel Robertson (20), of High Street, Chatteris was jailed for seven years and David Caley (30), of Huntingdon Road, Chatteris was jailed for seven-and a-half years at Peterborough Crown Court. They were both also sentenced to five years for possession of a firearm, to run concurrently.
Both men pleaded guilty at a previous hearing.
The robbery happened on October 31 at London Road Stores when Robertson and an unknown accomplice entered the shop brandishing weapons.
Robertson stood in the doorway pointing a pump action gun at the shop keeper while the other man went behind the till and threatened the shop keeper with a pistol. He then stole the till draw, containing £300, and £250 worth of cigarettes.
The men fled in a getaway car driven by Caley.
A passer-by saw the two men fleeing the scene and wrote the car’s registration number down.
Armed officers searched the area and two hours later Robertson and Caley were arrested.
The guns were never recovered.
DC Jon Edwards said: “This was a terrifying experience for the shopkeeper and I hope today’s result will allow him some closure.
“These sentences should send out a clear message to others that this type of crime will not be tolerated and we will use all of the tactics available to us to ensure offenders are caught.”
