The trial has started at Cambridge Crown Court of a man accused of the murder and rape of woman whose body was found at Wisbech’s Hare and Hounds Hotel in January.
Dainotas Doblys (49) of Boston has denied the charges following the death of Virginja Jurkiene. The court heard Miss Jurkiene had sustained multiple injuries and it was alleged by the prosecution the evidence indicated she was assaulted until she was dead and also probably afterwards.
The two met through an advert in a Lithuanian lonely hearts column and went to the North Brink Hotel.
Miss Jurkiene, who was living in Wisbech at the time, was a heavy drinker and was over four times the legal drink-drive alcohol limit when she died.
The court heard evidence from hotel landlady Jacqui Owens who said it was after check-out time when Doblys told her there was a problem and he thought Miss Jurkiene was dead.
