Two Wisbech takeaways were apparently shot at from a car by an unknown assailant on Saturday night.

Ruby Chinese takeaway and Best Kebab on Nene Quay were targeted within 30 minutes of each other, with the shots damaging a window in each premises.

Best Kebab owner Jack Dennis said he heard the first shot at 11.40pm which was aimed at the Ruby. The shot went through the window that fronts the street, leaving a hole in the glass.

The shot apparently came from a dark-coloured car that was travelling towards the Horsefair roundabout from the direction of the Post Office.

Just 30 minutes later, at 12.10am, a dark-coloured car came in the opposite direction – from the Horsefair roundabout – and a shot was fired at Best Kebab. Mr Dennis believes it was the same vehicle coming back for another go.

He said: “I was in the shop and my customer was going out to his car. The shot went just past his head and hit the window.”

Due to the laminate on the window, the shot did not go through but left a round chip in the glass that is clearly visible.

Mr Dennis said the police arrived just minutes after the second shot – potentially just missing the car involved – and took statements from everyone who witnessed the incidents.

Mr Dennis’ car was also targeted with eggs on Monday night when it was parked outside the business. The eggs hit the front and also the wall behind the car. However, the two incidents may be unrelated.

Police are investigating the two instances of damage to the takeaways and looking into whether an object was thrown from a passing car or a pellet fired from an air gun.
