The spirit of wartime Britain is set to be revived at a series of events being held in Fenland to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
They kick off this Friday afternoon (May 8) with a VE Day tea dance at the GER Sports Club, Robingoodfellows Lane, March, starting at 2pm.
It will feature music and songs from the 1940s and food will include spam sandwiches and jelly.
The event has been organised by the Royal British Legion Women’s Section. It is open to all and costs £4.50. For more details, call 01733 322376 or 07968 785709 or email email@example.com.
More anniversary celebrations are planned over the summer as part of the Home Front programme being coordinated by Cambridgeshire County Council. They include a dance evening in Doddington (May 16), a big celebration in Wisbech on Armed Forces Day (June 21), a street party in March (July 19) and a film show in Chatteris (August 8). The Wimblington Summer Show on July 5 will also have a wartime theme.
