A hospital volunteer raised £600 with a half-marathon walk for his local hospital.

Dave Farrow (67) organised the 13-mile walk himself for the Doddington branch of the Friends of Doddington Hospital.

It took him three hours and 17 minutes to complete on May 4 and took in a circuit from the hospital to March railway station and back.

When he crossed the finishing line, friends from the hospital (which is provided by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust) congratulated him.

Dave, who is also treasurer of the Friends, said: “I wanted to raise money for the hospital.

“The Friends have talked about raising money to purchase some medical equipment and I decided to see if I could help in some way.

“Luckily the weather was nice, but I did find it a bit tiring towards the end and was very pleased to see the finish.

“I’d like to thank friends, family and neighbours and volunteers from the hospital who sponsored me.”

Carla Stevens, head of admin and PA at the hospital, said: “It was a tremendous achievement by Dave.

“The proceeds will go towards much-needed equipment to benefit patients.

“Doddington Hospital is very lucky to be supported by such a dedicated group of Friends, who work tirelessly to raise money and keep the hospital profile raised in Fenland.”
