Tributes have been paid to local councillor Robert Scrimshaw who was found dead at his Murrow home on Saturday.
It is understood Peterborough United FC supporter Mr Scrimshaw was due to attend Saturday’s match. Police were called after concern was expressed and officers broke into the property and found Mr Scrimshaw (60). The death is not being treated as suspicious and on Monday the coroner’s office said it was aware of the death but had no further information.
Mr Scrimshaw was Fenland District councillor for Parson Drove and Wisbech St Mary. He was also a member of Parson Drove and Wisbech St Mary Parish councils and was elected to Fenland in 2008 as a Conservative.
Leader of Fenland Council, Alan Melton said: “Robert was a very conscientious councillor, he enjoyed his work, always speaking up on rural issues. All members liked and respected Robert.”
Brian Payne, Chairman of Wisbech St Mary Parish Council said: “Councillor Scrimshaw was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable councillor who spent a lot of his time meeting people and attending organisations in the three villages which make up this parish.”
