In May 2013, 40 employees of Delamore competed in the Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) 10k run in King’s Lynn. The event was organised by the Directors of Delamore and was in aid of raising money for a charity picked by a former employee of Delamore, Annette Atter, who was diagnosed with a terminal form of pancreatic cancer last year.

After speaking with her family, Annette picked the ‘Palliative Care CNS Fund’, which is a department of the local Hospital and also has close links with the Macmillan charity. It is with great sadness that Netty passed away in late January at the age of 50, after suffering for a relatively short period. Annette was a much loved and respected colleague of Delamore and will be greatly missed.

Since completing the event in May, the Delamore team has been vigorously trying to raise and collect donations in aid of Netty and a fantastic charity. Delamore are now proud to announce that, after a final calculation, they have raised a staggering £7928.30 for the local Palliative Care Unit, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. Amanda Whitehouse, Macmillan Palliative Care Lead Nurse of the QEH said, “the money raised will go towards helping local families who come into contact with our service in many ways. We regularly purchase memory boxes out of charitable funds, these are boxes where special memories and things, photographs, letters can be kept. We frequently use these when there are children in the family; they are often involved in building their own memory box with the patient. We have also purchased equipment to assist us with our role in supporting patients and families and we have used funds for educational purposes for nursing staff.”

Delamore Managing Director, Wayne Eady said “this event has really united our teams, they’ve all worked so hard, not only training and preparing for the run itself but also to raise a significant amount of money for a local charity and a wonderful former employee of ours”.

An employee of Delamore, Sophie Worlding also is planning to extend this cause, and is currently organising a Charity Ball on October 26 2013 in Wisbech St Mary to help raise further funds for this great charity. If you’d like to purchase tickets or offer your support in the form of sponsorship and raffle prizes it would be greatly welcomed. Please contact Delamore on 01945 419100 and ask for Sophie for further information.
