Citizen readers have been set a challenge to identify a mystery object found in a toolbox.
The tool was found by Gary Coulson who was clearing out the shed of his late father-in-law Jack Bird.
Mr Bird, who was a builder by trade, had the object in a toolbox with some old wooden planes and other hand tools.
Mr Coulson has tried without success to find out what the object is, taking it to ten museums.
It was made by Preston Tools, which manufactured tools in Birmingham from 1825 to 1932. Edward Preston made woodworking tools, mainly in beech wood and metal, and later manufactured cast steel tools.
