Driver admits pedestrian death

A DRIVER who killed Wisbech graduate Jamie Butcher has changed his plea to guilty just days before he was due to stand trial accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Michael Moore (39), of Murrow Lane, Changed his plea when he appeared beofre Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday.

Moore was the driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser which hit 22-year-old Jamie as he crossed Churchill Road, Wisbech on February 20, 2011.

The case was adjourned to later this month for pre-sentence reports.

Judge Jonathan Haworth granted bail, which included an immediate ban on driving, but warned Moore the offence normally carries a jail sentence.

Jamie was a bright student who had been accepted onto a human rights course at Manchester University just the day before he died.

The former Neale-Wade Community College student had already completed a three-year degree in psychology at De Montford University in Leicester.
