Dry rot has been detected at a historic Fenland council chamber.
Wisbech Town Council agreed at an extraordinary meeting to call in builders to solve the problem.
Dry rot was discovered in the gents’ toilets at the North Brink council chamber but there are fears that it could be a major problem if the damage has spread to the stairs.
Speaking at the meeting council leader David Oliver said: “I don’t think we have much choice. It has got to be done and we have to try to tackle the problem.
“This is something which has been historic in that area.”
Members of the resource committee have agreed to remove the urinal, resolve the dry rot, along with decorating the room and repairing the ceiling.
