There was a fire in a new dryer at Fengrain earlier today (Monday).
Five fire crews were called to the business on Hook Lane, Wimblington, at 11.20am after the smouldering fire in the agricultural grain dryer, which measured about 6m by 6m by 18m.
Development director Paul Randall said the dryer was being serviced at the time and due to a particularly dry and dusty yield, there was some dust left in the dryer. It started to burn and smoulder as the burners were being tested.
He said: “The burner is being replaced. No grain was affected and no one was hurt. A couple of deliveries were affected today but we will be back to normal tomorrow.”
Firefighters had to use working at height equipment to gain access and identify the exact location of the fire within the dryer. Specialist cutting equipment was used to cut a hole to further gain access.
