A SOUVENIR plate has been presented to mark the 200th anniversary of church schools.

It was given to the Anthony Curton Primary School of Walpole St Peter, by the Ven Hugh McCurdy, Archdeacon of Huntingdon and Wisbech, on Tuesday.

Church schools have a long history behind them and have been operating since 1811.

The Archdeacon held an assembly to explain to the pupils how church schools evolved and their history.

A spokesman from the school said: “It was a lovely event, the children really enjoyed it and it was nice to receive such a memorable plate.”
