A FENLAND headteacher came up with a novel way of marking her 40th birthday - having baked beans poured over her head.
While not the most pleasant of birthday treats, the stunt gave Joanne Borley, headteacher at Emneth Primary School, a chance to raise money for a new bike shed.
She sat in the middle of the playground in the bath, which was donated by a pupil’s parent, from 8.30am to 2.45pm and parents, staff and children paid money to pour a cup of beans over her.
Admin assistant at the school, Sue Green, said Ms Borley was a bit cold, but she persevered, having cups of tea and even eating her lunch in the bath.
“The Chinese takeaway across the road brought her lunch over and I’m not sure they knew what was going on!” she added.
Ms Borley’s efforts paid off and she managed to raise around £130 towards the bike shed.
