Books came to life at Wisbech Grammar School as pupils from the junior school dressed as their favourite book characters.

World Book Day is officially tomorrow (Thursday) but the youngsters got on board early by having their special dress-up day on Friday.

There were lots of different characters, from witches to animals, including some recognisable figures such as Willy Wonka and Dennis the Menace.

World Book Day was designated by unESco as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

A main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
