CHILDREN at West Walton Primary School were presented with their very own “Oscars” on Friday for their creative work over the past three weeks.

The awards ceremony, organised by Year 6 pupils, celebrated the end of three weeks work of creative writing and saw children from every year group receive an award.

Jade Griffiths (11), one of the pupils who helped organise the event, explained the children had spent three weeks planning, writing and illustrating stories as well as working with two authors, Damian Harvey and Robert Gregory.

Teachers from each year group had the difficult decision of choosing winners in a variety of categories: best character, best plot, best storyteller, and best overall writing for each year.

Year 6 pupils introduced each category reading the lucky “Oscar” winners from sealed envelopes.

All the children dressed in their finery for the red carpet do and later posed for photos with their prizes, which included a laminated “Oscar” and overall winners also won book tokens.
