IT wasn’t quite a BAFTA but it meant just as much to pupils of Wisbech’s Ramnoth Junior School when the school won ‘Best Newcomer Award’ for their film ‘Bar Wars’ at this year’s Cambridgeshire’s Young People’s Film Festival held at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge.

The host and compere for the evening was the poet and author Michael Rosen.

The children’s film was a spoof trailer based on the Star Wars films. The characters were all named after chocolate bars including Bar-2-D-2, Hand Rolo and the Evil Twixter. The team of children, who were from all year groups, were Katie-Anne Smith, Poppy Gill, Nathan McKenzie, Kerim Suleyman, Jade Lartillier, Ashleigh Ward and Thomas Gregory.

Alan Dawson, Year 4 teacher, said they worked extremely hard on this film and thoroughly deserve their award.
