PUPILS from March Westwood Junior School became the first youngsters in the town to receive a special commemoration medal to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.
Mayor Jan French went along on Monday to hand out the medals to all 335 children at the school in Maple Grove.
She will be visiting the remaining four infant and junior schools over the next week to present their children with the same medals.
March Town Council has bought the medals for all the town’s 1,800 lower-school children at a cost of £2.39 each as part of the celebrations to mark the Queen’s 60 year reign.
They actually purchased 2,000 medals and any surplus once all the schools have received theirs will be available to purchase.
Other celebrations include the lighting of the celebratory beacon in West End Park on Bank Holiday Monday (June 4) from 9.30pm.
