OLYMPIC torchbearer Kieron Green got a chance to go back to his former school and show off his torch.
Kieron (12) attended Clarkson Infants’ School in Wisbech as a young child and his sister Summer (5) is in Reception there.
On Wednesday, he paid a visit to the school to show the children his Olympic torch, which he proudly carried in Moulton, Lincolnshire, on July 4.
He went into assembly, looking splendid in his white Olympic uniform, and spoke to the gathered youngsters.
Sue Belcher, one of the teachers at Clarkson, said: “It was really exciting to think that one of our former pupils was going to be holding the Olympic flame.
“It’s really inspiring that he has the courage to work though his diabetes and it was good for him to come here and inspire our children.
“The children were amazed to see the torch. When Kieron came in with it, there was a massive ‘Wow’ and they all gave him a big clap.”
Although the children didn’t get to hold the torch, Mrs Belcher said they were “thrilled” to see it up close, particularly as most of them hadn’t been able to go and see the torch relay when it came close to Fenland.
