Fictional characters marked World Book Day at Wisbech Grammar School’s preparatory school by stepping off the printed page.

A colourful cast of pupils at Magdalene House Preparatory School dressed as everything from Little Red Riding Hood to the Cheshire cat, from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with several Harry Potters thrown in.

A panel of 12 judges from the senior school, representing the whole age range, picked the winners in each class.

The winners – Esme McIntyre, Charley Kirby, Alexander Burford, Bridie Fraser, Zach Peggs, Aiden Lasouska, Francesca Pittman and Zach Upton – were presented with book prizes by the deputy head, Miss Christine Noxon.

She said: “The outfits were most impressive.

“A lot of imagination, thought, time and effort had gone into many of the characters.

“It was good to see the team work involving pupils in different sections of the senior school as they made their selections, as well as the senior school working with Magdalene House.”
