Friday saw the official opening of one of Cambridgeshire’s newest educational establishments.
The Fenland base of the County School in Wisbech was officially opened by Cambridgeshire County Council’s Executive Director of Children, Families and Adults, Adrian Loades.
The new building in Coalwharf Road cost £2.5m and was funded by the Government’s Building Schools for the Future initiative. Cambs County Council and Fenland District Council each contributed part of the land.
The County School has three bases – in Cambridge, Huntingdon and Wisbech. It caters for students who are unable to manage in a mainstream school and require alternative provision.
The Fenland base currently caters for 30 students but has capacity for 35.
Students helped to organise the opening as part of their work with the Prince’s Trust xl programme and gave demonstrations of their work.
