LEVERINGTON Primary School is celebrating after achieving Academy Status this week.

Being an Academy will enable the governing body to direct extra resources into the educational and welfare benefit for pupils.

The school will also have freedom to decide on its curriculum and which initiatives will further school development.

Another key factor in being an Academy is supporting other schools.

To mark the opening of the Academy, special celebrations were held all day on Friday.

These included a special morning assembly, an Academy cake, a celebration lunch for children, staff and governors and an open afternoon.

Sue Robb, an ex-teacher at Leverington, provided a display of the history of the school for children, parents, governors and the local community to enjoy.

All the children were presented with an Academy book bag to commemorate the landmark achievement..
