DODDINGTON bowls star Edward Elmore became the first person to win back to back National Under 18 Short Mat Bowls Singles Championships at Kempston.

The 16-year-old won two out of the three group games to qualify for the knockout stages and in the quarter and semi finals Edward won 10-5 and 14-1.

In the final he came up against the 2010 winner Matt Sifford of Essex and after some high scoring ends, the match was level 12-12 after 11 ends and an extra end was required to decide the winner.

Elmore managed to get that all important shot to take the title for a second year. Older brother Robert became runner-up the year after his win in 2006.
